You will receive either of the following as utilities Allowance:
- If you’re single, Centrelink pays you $183.70 a quarter.
- If you’re in a couple, Centrelink pays $91.85 a quarter for each eligible member of a couple.
As of 20 September 2009, Utilities Allowance ceased to be paid as a separate allowance to recipients of the Pension Supplement. ‘Utilities Allowance’ is incorporated in the Pension Supplement which is automatically paid to pensioners and other eligible income support recipients with their regular fortnightly payment.
Utilities Allowance is automatically paid quarterly to eligible customers on their first payment delivery day after 20 March, 20 June, 20 September, and 20 December each year and is adjusted for increases in the Consumer Price Index. The rate is also adjusted on 20 March and 20 September each year. You won’t pay tax or have a means test for this allowance.
It is essential to consult the official websites or contact the relevant government departments for further information about Utilities Allowance. You may contact Centrelink on 13 2300 or visit the Department of Human Services website.
