Energy Supplement is not counted as income hence it is not taxed or indexed. The rate you get depends on your and your partner’s circumstances and the payment or services you get.
If you’re on a pension or an allowance, the Energy Supplement amount you get depends on your and your partner’s circumstances and the payment or services you get.
If you get a pension, your fortnightly amount of Energy Supplement depends on if you’re single or have a partner. If you get either Age Pension, Carer Payment, or Disability Support Pension and you are 22 or older, you’ll get the following amount of Energy Supplement.
- single, including illness separated, respite care or partner in prison: $14.10
- partnered: $10.60
If you get an allowance, your fortnightly amount of Energy Supplement depends on if you’re single or have a partner. You’ll get the following amount of Energy Supplement if you get either JobSeeker Payment or Farm Household Allowance.
- single, with no children: $8.80
- single, with dependent children: $9.50
- single, 60 and older, after 9 continuous months on payment: $9.50
- partnered: $7.90
- single principal carer, exempt from mutual obligations: $12.00
- single, Age Pension age and older: $14.10
- partnered, Age Pension age and older: $10.60
If you’re on a Disability Support Pension, the Energy Supplement amount you get depends on your and your partner’s circumstances and the payment or services you get. The amount of Energy Supplement you’ll get if you’re under 21 with no children depends on:
- if you get Disability Support Pension
- your situation, including if you’re a member of a couple and your age.
You’ll get:
- $5.90 if you’re under 18, single and dependent
- $6.60 if you’re 18 to 20, single and dependent
- $9.10 if you’re independent, or a member of a couple.
If you get a Family Tax Benefit, the Energy Supplement amount you get depends on your and your partner’s circumstances and the payment or services you get. The rate of Energy Supplement you’ll get depends on if you are eligible for Part A, Part B, or both Part A and Part B 0r get your FTB fortnightly or at the end of the financial year.
- FTB Part A – base rate: For each child aged 19 and under including secondary students, your FTB Part A base rate is:
- $1.40 per fortnight
- $36.50 per year
- FTB Part A – maximum rate: If you get more than the base rate of FTB, you may get a higher amount of Energy Supplement. The maximum amount of Energy Supplement you’ll get depends on the age of your child eligible for FTB.

If you get FTB Part B, you can get Energy Supplement as shown below.
- If your child is 4 and under you’ll get the following amount of Energy Supplement:
- $2.80 each fortnight, if you get your FTB each fortnight
- $73.00 each year, if you get your FTB at the end of the financial year.
- If your child is 5 to 18, you’ll get the following amount of Energy Supplement:
- $1.96 each fortnight, if you get your FTB each fortnight
- $51.10 each year, if you get your FTB at the end of the financial year.
