How much assistance for isolated child do I get?

Depending on the requirements and isolation conditions for the Assistance for Isolated Children Scheme you are able to satisfy, you’ll get one of the following:

  • Boarding Allowance
  • Distance Education Allowance
  • Second Home Allowance
  • Pensioner Education Supplement.

Homeschoolers who meet the requirements outlined above will receive the Distance Education Allowance. The maximum payment rate for 2023 is $4,698 per year. The payment is made at the beginning of each school term.

Parents who receive a Disability Support Pension or Parenting Payment (single) can apply for the Assistance for Isolated Children Pensioner Education Supplement, which is $62.40 per fortnight.

Note:

  • Your child’s living and study arrangements will determine which allowance or supplement you get.
  • Your child must meet the age requirements of being under 19 on 1 January of the year of study.
  • To get Assistance for Isolated Children (AIC), your child must meet certain isolation conditions.
  • The student must study full-time in an approved course at an approved institution to get Assistance for Isolated Children.
  • Parental means test
    Under the scheme, only Additional Boarding Allowance is income tested.
  • To be eligible for Assistance for Isolated Children you must meet the residence rules.
