What is the maximum duty-free allowance in Australia?

The maximum duty-free allowance for adults (18 years and older) entering Australia is:

  • 2.25 liters of alcoholic beverages (including wine, beer, or spirits).
  • 25 cigarettes, or 25 grams of tobacco products, or 25 sticks of cigars or cigarillos.
  • Personal goods and gifts valued up to AUD 900 in total.

Under 18 years:

  • AUD450 in total of general goods
  • no alcohol
  • no tobacco

Crew member:

  • AUD450 in total of general goods
  • 2.25 litres of alcohol
  • 25 grams tobacco (equal to approximately 25 cigarettes, plus an open packet)

Families on same flight or voyage going through Customs together can combine their allowance. For example, a family of two adults and two children would have a combined duty free allowance of AUD2700 in total of general goods.

For other goods, there are limits on how much you can bring in. You may need to pay duty and tax on furs and perfumes. Duty free concessions do not apply to commercial goods.

It’s important to note that these duty-free allowances are subject to change, and it’s always recommended to check the Australian Border Force website or contact Australian customs authorities for the most current and accurate information regarding duty-free allowances and restrictions.
