What are the NFVF funding requirements?

Applicants of the NFVF Bursary must satisfy the minimum requirements to be considered for funding. These are discussed below:

For National Bursary

  • Must be a citizen of South Africa
  • Must have completed Matric
  • Must have an average of at least 50% in their studies
  • Must have registered or is provisionally registered to study full-time towards a TV or Film qualification. This means a postgraduate or undergraduate degree or diploma, not in any acting or performance arts courses
  • Must have registered or is provisionally registered to study at one of the accredited tertiary institutions in South Africa – preferably to the accredited public tertiary institutions
  • Must have a proven financial need – meaning they must have a total annual gross income of R600 000 and below
  • Must have a strong academic record
  • Preference goes to students who are previously disadvantaged

For International Bursary

  • South African citizen
  • Excellent academic performance
  • Proven financial need
  • Enrolled at an accredited tertiary institution outside South Africa for a full-time postgraduate film/TV degree
  • Must apply at least 6 months before the course starts
