Sassa – South Africa Social Security Agency

SASSA is the South Africa Social Security Agency. Sassa’s role is to administer social grants to categories of people who are “vulnerable to poverty and in need of state support” in order to improve these people’s standard of living.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR A SASSA GRANT?

There is a misconception that only elderly people qualify for Sassa grants. There are in fact multiple categories of people who may apply for a grant. The Social Assistance Act of 2004 and regulations to the act provide the legal framework for the administration of seven social grants.
