What’s a normal fever?

A normal body temperature can vary between individuals and can fluctuate throughout the day. However, the average normal body temperature is generally considered to be around 98.6°F (37°C) when measured orally with a thermometer.

A fever on the other hand, is defined as a body temperature that is higher than normal. In adults, a fever is generally considered to be a body temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher, when measured orally. In infants and young children, a fever is often defined as a rectal temperature of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher.

It’s important to note that a fever is not always a cause for alarm, as it is the body’s natural response to fight off infection or other illnesses. However, if a fever is accompanied by other symptoms or lasts for an extended period of time, it is important to seek medical attention to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment.
