The three main areas of labor law in the United States are:
- The National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) which guarantees employees the right to form, join, or assist labor organizations, and to bargain collectively through representatives of their own choosing. It also prohibits employers from interfering with, restraining, or coercing employees in the exercise of these rights.
- The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) which establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and child labor standards affecting full-time and part-time workers in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments.
- The Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) which requires employers to provide a safe and healthy working environment for employees by setting and enforcing standards for workplace safety and health. Employers are also required to inform employees about hazardous materials in the workplace and provide training to employees about workplace hazards.
