Some signs that a cold is getting better include:
- Decrease in the severity of symptoms such as nasal congestion, coughing, and sore throat
- Improved ability to breathe through the nose
- Decreased amount of nasal discharge, or a change in the color of nasal discharge from green or yellow to clear
- Reduced fatigue and increased energy levels
- Improved appetite and ability to taste food
- Reduced fever
- Feeling less “unwell” in general.
Some people may experience a relapse of symptoms after feeling better for a few days, this is called a “cold with a second wind” and it is not uncommon. Ensure you wash your hands regularly, stay hydrated, clean or sanitize surfaces and avoid exposure to substances that are likely to cause a reinfection or relapse.
