How to Apply

  1. Open the official SRD portal at https://srd.sassa.gov.za.
  2. Click 'Apply for SRD Grant' or 'Start Application'.
  3. Enter your South African ID number.
  4. Enter your mobile number (OTP will be sent).
  5. Confirm OTP and continue to complete personal details.
  6. Provide bank details or select Bankless option if applicable.
  7. Give consent to income verification.
  8. Review and submit your application.
  9. You will receive an SMS confirmation after submission.

Requirements

  • South African citizen, permanent resident or refugee status
  • ID number
  • Phone number in your name for OTP
  • Bank account details (or bankless payment options)
  • Income below threshold and not receiving disqualifying grants

Documents Needed

  • South African ID (or passport for non-citizens where applicable)
  • Proof of income (if requested)
  • Bank statement (if asked)

Check Your SRD Status

Follow these steps to check your application status on the official SASSA portal:

  1. Go to the official status check page: https://srd.sassa.gov.za/sc19/status
  2. Enter your ID number and mobile number
  3. Click 'Check Status'
  4. Read the status message and follow the recommended next steps

Status Meanings

Status Meaning
Submitted Your application has been received and will be processed.
Filtering Your application is undergoing initial checks for eligibility.
Evaluation Docs or information are being verified.
Funding Eligible Your application is eligible; awaiting payment.
Not Eligible You do not meet the eligibility criteria.
More Info Required SASSA may require additional documents or verification.
