How to Apply

  1. Visit the official NSFAS portal: https://my.nsfas.org.za
  2. Create an account or log in if you already have one
  3. Complete your personal details exactly as on your ID
  4. Verify your cellphone number and email using OTP
  5. Click 'Apply for Funding' and follow the on-screen form
  6. Upload required supporting documents
  7. Review and submit your application
  8. Save your application/reference number

Requirements

  • South African ID or temporary ID
  • Active cellphone number for verification
  • Email address
  • Matric certificate or latest results
  • Parent/guardian ID (if dependent)

Documents Required

  • Copy of ID
  • Proof of income or affidavit (if applicable)
  • Parent/guardian ID copy (if dependent)
  • Matric certificate or latest school results
  • Bank details (for payment)

Check NSFAS Status

Follow these steps to check your application status on the official NSFAS portal:

  1. Go to the NSFAS status page: https://my.nsfas.org.za/status
  2. Enter your application reference number or ID
  3. Click 'Check Status' to view current progress
  4. Follow the guidance displayed for your status

Status Meanings

Status Meaning
Received NSFAS has received your application and it is in queue.
Under Review Your application and documents are being verified.
Approved Your application is approved; payment will be scheduled.
Rejected Your application was declined. Check documents and eligibility.
More Information Required NSFAS requires additional documents or clarification.
