This guide helps you understand how to book an ID appointment online via the official DHA eHomeAffairs platform. Follow the steps below to complete your Smart ID or passport application booking.

How to Book Online

  1. Go to the official eHomeAffairs site: https://ehome.dha.gov.za/echannel
  2. Register with your ID number or log in if you already have an account.
  3. Enter your personal details and verify your phone number via OTP.
  4. Select 'Smart ID Card' or 'Passport' application.
  5. Complete the online form and upload documents if required.
  6. Make payment online using your bank card or select in-bank payment.
  7. Choose your preferred Home Affairs branch or bank branch with DHA services.
  8. Select a date and time slot for your biometrics (fingerprints and photos).
  9. Download or save your confirmation receipt.
  10. Attend your appointment with your ID and supporting documents.

  • Valid South African ID number
  • Active mobile number for OTP verification
  • Email address
  • Ability to log in to eHomeAffairs
  • Payment card (Visa/Mastercard) if applying for Smart ID or passport

Check Application Status

Follow these steps to check your application status on the official eHomeAffairs portal:

  1. Return to https://ehome.dha.gov.za/echannel
  2. Login using your ID number and password.
  3. Click on 'My Applications'.
  4. View application progress such as 'Submitted', 'Awaiting Biometrics', 'In Process', or 'Ready for Collection'.
  5. Visit your selected branch to collect once notified.

Status Meanings

Status Meaning
Submitted Your application has been received by Home Affairs.
Awaiting Biometrics You must visit your chosen branch for fingerprints and photos.
In Process Home Affairs is processing your ID or passport.
Ready for Collection Your document is available at your selected branch.
Rejected Application rejected due to missing documents or incorrect details.
