How to Check Your CAO Status

  1. Visit the official CAO portal at reg.cao.ac.za
  2. Click on 'Login' or 'My Application' if you already have an account
  3. Enter your CAO number and password (or create an account if you don't have one)
  4. Click 'Login' to access your CAO account
  5. Navigate to 'My Application' or 'Application Status' section
  6. View your current application status and any messages from CAO
  7. Check for any required actions, documents, or responses needed

CAO Status Meanings

Status Description
Application Received Your CAO application has been successfully received and is in the system.
Waiting for Decision Your application is being processed and a decision is pending.
Under Review Your application is currently under review by the institutions you applied to.
Provisionally Accepted You have been provisionally accepted. Follow the instructions provided to confirm your place.
Firmly Accepted You have been firmly accepted. You can proceed with registration at the institution.
Declined Your application was not successful. You may be eligible for other programs or institutions.
Awaiting Documents CAO is waiting for additional documents or information to process your application.
Documents Received Your documents have been received and are being reviewed.
Verification in Progress CAO is verifying the information and documents you submitted.
Referred to Institution Your application has been referred to the institution for further review.
Conditional Offer You have received a conditional offer. Meet the specified conditions to secure your place.
Waitlisted You are on a waiting list. You may be offered a place if one becomes available.
Application Incomplete Your application is missing required information or documents. Please complete it.
Payment Pending Your application fee payment is being processed.
Payment Received Your application fee has been received and your application is active.
Withdrawn Your application has been withdrawn. Contact CAO if this was done in error.
Expired Your application has expired. You may need to submit a new application.
On Hold Your application is temporarily on hold pending additional information or verification.
