Acute bronchitis, which is caused by a viral infection, is considered to be contagious. The virus spreads through the air when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or by touching a surface that has the virus on it and then touching the mouth or nose. People who are in close contact with someone who has acute bronchitis are at risk of catching the virus.
Chronic bronchitis, on the other hand, is not contagious. It is caused by long-term exposure to irritants such as cigarette smoke, air pollution, and certain chemicals. People who have chronic bronchitis cannot spread the condition to others.
It’s important to note that good hygiene practices such as washing hands frequently, covering the mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing, and avoiding close contact with people who are sick can help to prevent the spread of the virus.
