How to qualify for the Compensation Fund Bursary

To qualify for the Compensation Fund, you generally need to meet the following requirements:

1. Vocational Rehabilitation Bursary:

  • South African citizen
  • Unemployed Compensation Fund pensioner (previous worker) who suffered occupational injuries or diseases and therefore acquired a permanent disability
  • OR other unemployed people with physical disabilities
  • Want to improve your skills to return to working or become self-employed
  • Accepted to study full-time at one of the following recognized institutes: Public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges/ Community Education and Training (CET) Colleges/ Higher Education Institution (HEI)
  • Combined household income is NO more than R600 000 per year

2. Dependents of Compensation Fund Bursary:

  • South African citizen
  • Dependents of Compensation Fund pensioner
  • Between 17 and 25 years old
  • Accepted to study full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Accepted to study at one of the following recognized institutes: Public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges/ Higher Education Institution (HEI)
  • Combined household income is NO more than R600 000 per year
  • Tuition fees quote and Prescribed Learning Resources quote

3. Young student Bursary:

  • South African citizen
  • Between 17 and 25 years old
  • Accepted to study full-time within one of the aforementioned fields of study
  • Entering your 1st year of studies
  • Accepted to study at a Higher Education Institution (HEI)
  • Combined household income is no more than R600 000 per year
  • Tuition fees quote and Prescribed Learning Resources quote
