How to book for ID online at Home Affairs?

Ensure you meet the requirements

If you wish to apply for an ID online for the first time, you must meet the requirements listed below.

  • You must be a South African citizen by birth.
  • You must be 16 years old or older.
  • You must have a copy of your birth certificate/ a copy of the old Bophutatswana, Transkei, Ciskei, or Venda homelands identity or travel document.
  • You must have copies of your parents’ ID cards.
  • You must have a copy(ies) of the death certificate(s) (for deceased parents).
  • Anyone with a legal guardian must have a copy of a legal document to prove fostering.
Create your profile

Go on to the e-Home Affairs website at ehome.dha.gov.za/ehomeaffairsv3 and register. Start by creating an account on the official website of the South African Department of Home Affairs. This usually requires providing your personal information, such as:

  • Your full name, contact details, etc.
  • Create a password, and;
  • Answer various questions for security purposes.

You will receive an OTP (one-time pin) to confirm your cellphone number. Enter it in, and click submit. You will receive another OTP to login to your profile.

Complete your application

Once you have created your profile, you will need to fill out the online application form for the ID card. This form will typically require you to enter details such as your full name, date of birth, place of birth, citizenship status, and other relevant information.

Upload supporting documents

After completing the application form, you will be required to upload the necessary supporting documents. These documents may include your birth certificate, proof of address, proof of citizenship, and any additional documents specified by the Department of Home Affairs. It’s important to ensure that the documents you upload are clear, legible, and meet the specified requirements.

Complete your payment

You can make an online payment or choose to pay at a branch of a bank. Once the application form and supporting documents are submitted, you will need to make the required payment for the ID card. Schedule Appointment

After successful payment, you will be directed to schedule an appointment for your ID card application. The online system will provide available dates and times for appointments at Home Affairs offices or other designated locations. Select a suitable appointment slot that fits your schedule.

Print Confirmation

Print your confirmation letter. Remember to take your barcoded confirmation Letter as well as your ID Book (if available) when you attend your scheduled appointment.

Card Collection

You will receive a SMS notifying when your card is ready for collection.
