Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) is a complex and debilitating disorder characterized by persistent fatigue that is not improved by rest and is accompanied by a variety of other symptoms. The cause of CFS is not well understood, and there is currently no known cure. The condition is also known as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS).

Symptoms of CFS may include muscle and joint pain, headaches, cognitive difficulties, sleep disturbances, and an inability to concentrate. People with CFS may also experience symptoms such as sore throat, tender lymph nodes, and flu-like symptoms. The condition can severely impact a person’s quality of life and ability to function, as it can make even everyday activities difficult to perform. CFS can also lead to depression and anxiety. Despite the severity of this disorder, it is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed. Diagnosis of CFS is primarily based on the symptoms and their persistence and exclusion of other conditions that may be causing the symptoms.
