Endometriosis

Endometriosis is a chronic condition in which the tissue that normally lines the inside of the uterus, called the endometrium, grows outside the uterus on other organs and tissues in the pelvic area. This can cause pain, inflammation, and the formation of scar tissue, and can lead to a range of symptoms, including painful periods, pelvic pain, pain during sex, and infertility. Endometriosis affects an estimated 10% of women of reproductive age, and is often a difficult condition to diagnose, as its symptoms can be similar to those of other conditions.

The exact cause of endometriosis is not fully understood, but it is thought to involve a combination of genetic, hormonal, and immune factors. Treatment for endometriosis depends on the severity of symptoms and the desire for fertility, and may include pain medication, hormonal therapy, or surgery to remove the endometrial tissue. While there is currently no cure for endometriosis, medical and surgical interventions can often help manage the symptoms and improve quality of life for those affected.
