As an institutional response to the general challenge facing higher educational institutions in Ghana on resolving the issue of high utility tariffs, nine kitchenettes have been constructed for students in residence to allow them use LPG for cooking in-place of electric cookers as an interim measure.

In a statement during a pre-handing over tour of the facility on Thursday 27th October, 2016, the Acting Deputy Director of Works and Physical Development Office, Mr. Daniel Tetteh revealed that, the construction has become necessary because, existing kitchenettes were designed for users of electric cookers.

However, as a result of high electricity bills accruing from using electric cookers and heaters, the University of Education, Winneba Council directed that, steps be taken to provide students alternative safe and secure sources of energy for cooking in the place of electrical energy.
